Mary Jo Yackley

yackleyMary Jo Yackley is an avid quilt maker, long arm quilter, designer and teacher.  She has a background in textiles from Kent State University and Purdue University and thoroughly enjoys the tactile experience of playing with fabric.

She started her first quilt in 1974 and has been actively and continuously quilting since 1986.  Mary Jo has been teaching quilting for 28 years – in quilt shops, for guilds, at regional seminars and on quilting cruises.  Mary Jo has been operating her long arm business, QUILTIN’ TIME since 2001.  She has won many ribbons (including Best of Show) in local and regional shows, both on her own quilts and those quilted for customers.  Mary Jo is an active member of 2 quilt guilds and has curated quilt shows for the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston.  Since 2004 she has been designing a line of quilt patterns.  Some of her work has been featured in quilt books.  You may visit her webpage at

Mary Jo especially enjoys creating new designs, re-interpreting antique designs and discovering simplified ways to make quilts.  Her favorite part of teaching is the “ah haaa” when a student clearly understands a new technique or tip.

Mary Jo lives in Livingston, Texas with her husband, Randy.  She has two grown daughters (both quilters), an adorable granddaughter a tiny grandson and another grandchild on the way; all of whom have multiple quilts because you can never have too many quilts!
